Franklin County Humane Society gets grant from Petfinder

The Franklin County Humane Society has received a grant from the Petfinder organization.
Petfinder is an on-line resource where animal shelters and animal rescuers can post pictures and information about adoptable pets.
It also acts a central news and information site regarding all things "Pet".
The
Franklin County animal shelter has used the Petfinder service for years and has successfully placed numerous animals all over the Southeast through the program.
The Humane Society calls it the single most helpful tool in getting the faces of their homeless animals out to the public.
Now Petfinder has provided the humane society with a 3000 dollar grant to help the shelter offset some of the revenue it lost because of the BP oil spill.
The grant program was annouced in July for shelters directly impacted by the Gulf Oil Spill.
The local shelter applied for a grant because of the large decease in donations and money earned through fundraising, both of which suffered greatly during the 5 month spill.
According to the
Franklin County humane Society the money will be used exclusively for the care and medical needs of their pets.
The Humane Society, by the way, is also looking for two other donations.
The window unit air-conditioner and heater the humane society uses in its cat room recently broke down, and they are seeking the donation of a working one.
They are also looking for a washing machine as their current one is on its last legs.
If you can help with either of those items, contact the animal shelter at 670-4733.
