Franklin County prepares to recieve energy efficiency grant

Franklin County commissioners are preparing to accept a half million dollar energy efficiency grant for the county and the city of Carrabelle.
County planner Alan Pierce told commissioners that the grant money should be arriving in the next few weeks.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation grant will provide 250 thousand dollars to fund an energy audit at the Franklin County Courthouse and the Carrabelle City Complex and to install new windows in the two buildings.
The grant will also provide 250 thousand dollars to install solar panels on the courthouse annex which will generate 25 kilowatts worth of electricity.
The county estimates the solar panels will save 23 thousand dollars a year in electricity costs.
