Legislators Plan to Stop the Implementation of Septic Tank Law During Special Session
Legislation that will stop the implementation of the new septic tank inspection mandate will be introduced by Senator Don Gaetz during a one-day special session on Tuesday, November 16th. The state law that requires owners to pay for inspections is slated to go into effect on January 1st, 2011, but with this legislation it will be delayed in order to allow lawmakers to address the repeal during the regular legislative session in the spring.
Several Legislators asked Governor Crist to delay the implementation until after the regular session, but he refused, leaving lawmakers will no other option than to introduce a two-step plan to repeal the mandate.
The first step is to delay the implementation date for six months. Representative Coley and Senator Gaetz will file legislation during the regular session to repeal the mandate.
“I am grateful for the leadership of President Designate Mike Haridopolos and Speaker Designate Dean Cannon for recognizing the concerns of the citizens of Florida and especially Northwest Florida,” Gaetz said. “By delaying the implementation of this harmful mandate, it will give Representative Coley and me the opportunity to present the case for the complete repeal in March.”
