The National Weather Service will offer a free storm spotter class in Franklin County later this month.
The weather service depends on the public to report instances of damage stemming from storms and would like to help local residents better understand what they are seeing and how to report it. The information supplied by residents often helps meteorologists’ determine whether the damage, or destruction was caused by a tornado, or downburst of wind.
On Mar. November 15th at 5:00 p.m., a forecaster from the National Weather Service Office in Tallahassee will be in Apalachicola to conduct the Storm Spotter class.
The class will take place in the Emergency Operations Center Building at the Apalachicola Airport at 28 Airport Road.
Those who attend will receive a basic class in determining various climatic conditions.
The class is free to the public; you just need to contact the Emergency Management Office to sign up.
The number is 653-8977.
For people who cannot attend there is also an on-line, computer edition of the class.
