Carrabelle clinic plans to expand hours beginning in March

Weems Medical Center East in Carrabelle should expand its hours of operation this spring to make it easier for working people to see a doctor.

The 1.3 million dollar medical center opened to the public in January – it provides general family medicine at the site, and in the near future there will be radiology, lab services and urgent care, and even rotating specialties like dermatology and ob-gyn.

Weems medical Center East is currently open Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 but will extend the hours of operation in March with the hiring of a new nurse practitioner.

Weems hospital CEO Chuck Colvert said they expect to expand to evening and weekend hours.

Right now the clinic sees about 16 patients a day and that number should grow over the coming months as the clinic provides more services.

The clinic was the first major project funded through a local 1 cent sales tax to enhance local health care.

The next project will be a new hospital in Apalachicola.
