Tyndal Federal Credit Union may have an interest in opening a branch office in Franklin County.
The Credit Union told County officials this month that it is looking at its options in Franklin County and will make a final decision by April 30th.
Franklin County officials approached Tyndal in December saying that the county needs a locally owned bank in the community.
Franklin County recently lost its last local bank when regulators closed Gulf State Community Bank and sold it to Centennial Bank which is based in Arkansas.
Centennial also acquired Coastal Community Bank last year, which was the parent company of Apalachicola State Bank.
Commissioners said that leaves residents with fewer choices, and commissioners are concerned about more jobless.
County commissioners expressed concerns that we could see lay-offs in the coming months as the two banking systems are merged and feel that one way to soften the blow is to find another banking group that might want to open a branch here.
