NOAA fisheries considers increasing Red Snapper quota

Fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico may be allowed more red snapper under a rule being considered by the NOAA Fisheries Service.
The Fisheries Service is seeking public comment on a proposed rule to increase the commercial red snapper quota in the Gulf of Mexico from 3.5 to 3.6 million pounds and the recreational quota from 3.4 to 3.5 million pounds.
Researchers say Red Snapper populations are looking better than expected.
A recent red snapper stock assessment showed overfishing for red snapper ended in 2009,
Written comments on the proposed rule are being accepted through March 24th.
