5 companies bid on 12 thousand dollar trash project

5 companies have bid on a project to clean trash from local bridges.

County commissioners opened bids on Tuesday from companies that say they are willing to do the work, though not all of them were willing to do it for the price the county wants to pay.

The county has 12 thousand dollars to pay someone to clean trash from the St. George Island, Apalachicola, and Carrabelle bridges every 2 weeks.

The county is taking the money from Transfield Services which contracts with the state Department of Transportation to maintain state roads in Franklin County.

That company only cleans the bridges once every 2 months.

The companies that bid for the work include Bill Wylie Construction, RJP Construction out of Apalachicola, Hank Garrett out of Eastpoint, and Captain Dave’s Lawn Service and Mark Nobles, both out of Carrabelle.

Some of the bidders asked for more than the 12 thousand dollars the county has; one companies bid came in a 72 thousand dollars.

Another bid was less than 6000 dollars.

The bids have been given to the county attorney for a recommendation.

The county commission will decide which company to hire at its next meeting.
