Eastpoint to get bigger grocery store

Eastpoint residents may soon have a new grocery store to shop in.

County commissioners last week gave their approval to a variance which will allow the construction of a grocery store 6 feet into the setback line on Washington Street and 5 feet into the west side lot.

The variance is to allow refrigeration units for a new Big Top Supermarket building.

They also approved a commercial site plan for the new store.

The Big Top is Eastpoint’s only grocery store.
It is currently located on Highway 98 next to the Post Office, but county planner Alan Pierce said the store’s owner Kenneth Shiver plans to build a bigger store at the Washington Street location.

Not only will the building be bigger but there will also be more parking for customers.

There was no word as to when construction will begin.
