Emerald Coast Federal Credit Union considers opening Franklin County branch office

Emerald Coast Federal Credit Union has shown an interest in providing banking services in Franklin County.
The credit union currently only operates in Gulf County with locations in Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka.
It’s been in operation since 1939 it originally began as the St. Joe Papermakers Federal Credit Union.
The credit union has asked that county and cities send letters of invitation which the county commission was more than happy to do.
Commission Cheryl Sanders said she has spoken to officials at the credit union and they will only be able to open one branch in the county.
She asked that the county try to have the credit union locate in Eastpoint because of its central location.
Tyndall federal Credit Union is also considering opening a branch location here and are expected to make a final decision by the end of April.
County Commissioners are trying to lure in more locally owned banks after the closures of Gulf State Community Bank and Apalachicola State Bank last year.
