FWC DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT FIELD OPERATIONS WEEKLY REPORT March 4 - 10, 2011

This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however, it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.

NORTHWEST REGION

GADSDEN & LEON COUNTIES

Officer Mike Fish observed a vessel moored at a local fishing dock on Lake Talquin.  In the floor of the boat were several speckled perch, which appeared to be undersized.  Officer Fish moved to another location to wait for the occupant to arrive.  When the individual returned, Officer Fish approached the subject to check his catch.  The subject started throwing the fish overboard, but the officer retrieved several of them.  The subject was cited for possession of undersized speckled perch and possession of undersized black bass.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY

Lt. Dan Hahr observed a truck parked at Quintette boat ramp with two men sitting inside.  Both men were smoking from a long thin tube.  When Lieutenant Hahr approached and identified himself, the passenger made movements indicating he was hiding something.  Lieutenant Hahr observed a metal tube and a paper towel on the lap of the passenger.  He asked both subjects to exit the truck and observed a drug pipe under the passenger’s thigh.  After a thorough search, he located two rocks of crack cocaine tucked between the seat and console.  He also located two different types of prescription drugs on the passenger.  The lieutenant discovered a 6‑year‑old boy sleeping under some clothes in the back seat.  The suspects were obviously smoking in the presence of the child.  Both subjects were arrested and booked in the Santa Rosa County Jail for possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The driver was also booked for driving while his license is suspended.  Charges against both are pending for child abuse/neglect.

WALTON COUNTY

Lt. Mark Hollinhead and Officer Danny Arnette attended court in Defuniak Springs for two subjects charged with taking deer at night with a gun and light.  Both subjects entered a plea and were assessed a $785 fine each, received one year suspension of their hunting privileges, and forfeiture of the vehicle and firearm involved.
