Work is now beginning on a plan to restore portions of the Gulf Coast damaged during the BP oil spill and the public is now being asked for their ideas.
A series of public scoping meetings are scheduled to be held across the Gulf Coast; the closest meeting to our area will be in Panama City.
The meetings will be used to identify areas that need restoration, the types of work that will be required for the restoration, and the potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts of the work.
The 90-day scoping comment period is the first of several opportunities for citizens to become involved in the restoration planning.
If you would like to take part in the process, the Panama City meeting will be held this Thursday at the Bay County Government Center at 840 W. 11th Street.
The meeting will begin at 7:30 Central Time.
If you can’t attend the meeting but would still like to make comments, you can do so over the internet.
In addition to providing comments by mail or in person at scoping meetings, members of the public also can enter comments via this website.
