County commissioners last week approved a contract with the Florida Department of Revenue that will pay the county for service of process in child support cases.
When the state files proceedings in a child support case, it falls to the local sheriff’s office to serve the papers to the individuals involved in the case.
The sheriff’s department charges a fee, but they don’t tend to collect the money.
Under the new contract the county will be reimbursed by the state for 66 percent of the costs which will help offset the county’s cost for doing the work.
The current contract was approved in 2008 and ends this year.
The new contract will insure the payments continue through June of 2014.
