Dead sea turtle found on St. George Island

A dead sea turtle was found on St. George Island Wednesday.
The carcass of the loggerhead turtle was found washed up on the gulfside of the island near 300 Ocean Mile.
The cause of death is not yet known and might be difficult to ascertain because the carcass was highly decomposed.
What to do when one comes across a sick, dead or injured sea turtle.  FWC has a Sea Turtle Stranding Network that coordinates the gathering of data and rescue.  When activated, the network will notify the local marine turtle permit holder or others on that permit holder’s stranding team.  The information that the public needs about contacting the Florida Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network can be found at:  http://myfwc.com/research/wildlife/sea-turtles/mortality/contact/
