In any other year tomorrow would be tax day- but this year we get a little break.
The deadline this year is April 18th, a three day extension past the traditional filing date. You can thank a little known District of Columbia holiday called Emancipation Day for the extension.
Emancipation Day celebrates the freeing of slaves in the District which means many government workers won’t be at work on Friday.
And remember, if you got money from BP last year you will have to pay taxes on it.
Taxes were not withheld from BP damage claim payments.
If you are having a problem getting your taxes done, you can file an extension and then have until October to pay your taxes plus interest.
