Franklin County commissioners now have their new ipads.
Board members received the table computers on Tuesday – they agreed to purchase the machines so they can move to a paperless meeting format and hopefully over time save some money.
Ipads were also provided for the county administrator and the county attorney.
The board spent about 7000 dollars to purchase the ipads as well as the data plan needed to keep the machines connected to the internet.
The county calculated that the purchase would pay for itself within about 18 months.
The move may also make it easier for the public to have access to county records since many of the reports the county currently has printed out will be converted to computer files where they can be sent out much more easily.
That may come in especially handy during this year’s budget negotiations so that everyone will have access to the budget books which will be provided for the first time this year in a digital format.
