The number of serious crimes in Franklin County dropped by over 12 and a half percent between 2009 and 2010 – statewide there was a 6.7 percent drop in the crime rate.
The numbers come from the uniform crime report that was released Tuesday.The overall crime rate in Franklin County, which includes violent crimes like Murder and rape, was up from 326 incidents in 2009 to 283 last year.
There was 1 murder in Franklin County in 2010, the first in 3 years.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said the number of forcible rapes, however, increased from 6 to 13, the number of robberies remained at 2 and the number of aggravated assaults jumped from 68 to 85.
The number of Motor vehicle thefts also rose from 8 in 2009 to 17 last year.
The number of burglaries, however, fell from 79 to 44.
There were 121 larcenies last year, down from 163 in 2009.
FDLE reports that 52.7 percent of the violent crime cases have been cleared by local law enforcement authorities.
That’s up from 46 percent in 2009.
Gulf County saw a 20 percent drop in the number of major crimes last year.
Gulf county had one murder last year; Robberies rose from 1 to 4, and aggravated assaults were down from 73 to 44.
There were 53 burglaries in Gulf County last year, 90 larcenies and 5 motor vehicle thefts.
Gulf County police cleared 36 and a half percent of their cases last year, down from 39 percent in 2010.
