EOC gets approval to purchase new ATV

County commissioners have agreed to let the Emergency Management Office by an ATV so they can check the beaches for ay signs of oil.

The board approved the purchase of a Polaris Ranger Crew 500 which will make it much easier for Emergency Management to do its weekly beach checks and to check the shorelines after storms or other large wave action.

The EOC will spend a little over 10 thousand dollars on the vehicle and a trailer to tow it with.

The money comes from BP which reimbursed the Emergency Management office 40 thousand dollars for work it had to do during the oil spill.

Emergency Management Director Pam Brownell said that besides being useful for beach work, it will also give Emergency Management access to many other areas of the county that they could never reach by car.
