Franklin County School board recognizes volunteers and retiring teacher

The Franklin County School District honored some of its local volunteers last week.

Last year the school system began keeping records of the volunteers that provide assistance to the district as well as all of the services they provide.

52 people were recognized at the school board meeting last week, that’s up from 28 the year before.

Franklin County residents from all walks of life were recognized, including Apalachicola May Van Johnson and local firefighter Ashlee Teat.

All of the volunteers received a certificate and pin for their service.

They also received much applause from the crowd at the school board meeting.

The board also recognized one its retiring teachers last week.

Eva White, who has worked in the school district for 36 years, is retiring this year.

She relieved a plaque and a standing ovation.
