"Hands Across the Sands" on Saturday at Carrabelle Beach

Organizers are preparing for a “Hands across the Sand” event at Carrabelle beach this weekend to draw attention to the dangers of offshore oil drilling.
Hands across the Sand was first held in February two years ago and over a hundred people in Franklin County turned out at Carrabelle beach and the St. George Island public beach to show their opposition to offshore oil drilling.
Thousands more people from around the state turned out at similar demonstrations on more than 80 beaches across Florida including at Indian Pass and Shell Point.
Since then the BP oil spill has shown just how devastating an oil spill can be for the Gulf Coast.
Participants of the event wear black clothing and stand on local beaches holding hands to represent the damage an oil spill can do to Florida’s beaches.
Organizers are now scheduling a “Hands across the Sand” event for this Saturday.
If you would like to take part, just put on some black clothes and come out to Carrabelle beach.
Try to be at the beach by 11:30 – line up will start at noon - the event should be done by 1.
