NOAA fisheries will not review status of Goliath Grouper population

NOAA Fisheries has decided not to begin a review of goliath grouper populations in the Gulf of Mexico.
On September 3 a group called WildEarth Guardians asked that NOAA fisheries consider listing goliath grouper, Nassau grouper, and speckled hind as threatened or endangered and to designate critical habitat for these species.
This month NOAA fisheries said the petition did not present substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the petitioned action may be warranted.
Accordingly, NOAA Fisheries will not initiate a status review of the species at this time.
