Sacred Heart becomes "swing bed" facility

Sacred Heart Hospital in Port St. Joe has added a new service to help patients who need additional rehabilitation after a hospital stay or surgery.

The hospital has designated nine of its 19 private rooms as “swing beds” that can be utilized as needed for either short-term rehabilitation or for providing traditional acute care to hospital patients.

By becoming a swing bed facility, Sacred Heart can now be reimbursed through Medicare for extended care services for qualified patients to receive physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy as well as long-term intravenous (IV) therapy.

In addition to adding the swing-bed rehabilitation service, the hospital is actively recruiting more physicians.

It recently opened a new medical office building on the hospital campus with space for primary care physicians, dialysis services, women’s diagnostic and imaging services, and outpatient rehabilitation services.
