USDA issues disaster declaration for Georgia counties

Federal agriculture officials have declared 22 Georgia counties disaster areas due to drought conditions.

Four Florida counties also fall under the declaration because they are adjacent to counties under the disaster declaration.

The impacted Florida counties are Hamilton, Jefferson, Leon and Madison counties.
Farmers in those counties are eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.
Farmers in eligible counties have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
USDA also has made other programs available to assist farmers and ranchers; interested farmers should contact their local USDA Service Centers for further information or just go on-line to disaster.fsa.usda.gov.
