Catholic Charities gets grant to provide assistance to oil spill victims

Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida has been selected to administer a $3 and a half million dollar grant that could bring some additional help for local people still feeling the impacts from last year’s BP oil gusher.

The money is coming through an anonymous donation to Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors to help residents across the northern Florida Gulf Coast still struggling to recover financially, emotionally and physically from last year’s oil spill and its aftermath.

Programs will be offered in the 7 affected Florida counties reaching from Franklin County west to Escambia.

Services are designed to address some of the unmet needs of individuals, families, and children through emergency financial assistance to meet basic needs, financial literacy education, outreach and mental health services and youth development activities.
