Crooked River lighthouse seeks public support for property purchase

The Crooked River lighthouse is looking for community support as they work to purchase more land around the lighthouse site.

The lighthouse association is working with the Florida Community Trust to purchase three acres adjacent to the Crooked River Lighthouse Park to expand the park and provide more amenities.

The Florida Communities Trust Parks and Open Space Florida Forever grant program helps growing communities by providing money to protect natural resources and open space.

The lighthouse association says that expanding the park will help promote heritage and conservation tourism and increase the economic base of Carrabelle.

The lighthouse group is looking for letters of support from the community for their expansion which might help them get money from the Florida Community Trust.

If you would like to write a letter of support we’ve posted the address where you can send it on the news page at oysterradio.com.

If you don’t want to write your own letter but still want to help we’ve also posted a sample letter on the site.

SAMPLE LETTER OF SUPPORT

Ken Reecy, Administrator Florida Communities Trust
Sadowski Building, Suite 310,
2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-2100

Dear Mr. Reecy:

I urge you to fund the City of Carrabelle’s application for Florida Community Trust, Florida Forever, Parks and Open Space funding for the acquisition three (3) acres adjacent to the Crooked River Lighthouse Park.  This park is a valuable historic and economic community asset to Carrabelle and Franklin County.  It needs to be preserved and returned to its historical footprint.

The expansion and preservation of this park, as well as the proposed amenities will promote heritage and conservation tourism to increase the economic base of Carrabelle.  Carrabelle is a REDI community in Franklin County and is in great need of funding assistance to preserve its historic assets.  Carrabelle has a proven record in successfully completing conservation grant projects.  I appreciate your positive consideration to fully fund the Crooked River Lighthouse Park Expansion request.

Sincerely yours,
