Traffic accidents down, fatalities up


There were 81 car accidents investigated by the Highway patrol in Franklin County in 2010.

That’s down from 99 the year before.

That’s part of an overall drop in traffic accidents around the state.

The Highway patrol investigated over 235 thousand accidents last year; that’s about 300 fewer than the year before and nearly 2100 fewer than in 2006.

The number of traffic fatalities in Franklin County last year doubled from 3 to 6.

According to the highway patrol, 2 of those were alcohol related accidents.

One of the fatalities involved a motorcyclist.

6 pedestrians were injured in car accidents last year; there were no fatalities - bicyclists stayed safe with no accidents or fatalities.

In Gulf County there were 78 accidents and 2 fatalities.

Liberty County saw 75 accidents and 1 death.

In Wakulla County there were 242 accidents and only 4 fatalities.
