The Highway patrol says 26 people were killed on Florida’s roads over the Thanksgiving holidays.
That’s down from nearly 40 deaths in 2010.
Much of the decline can be attributed to increased
police presence over the 5 day holiday.
Between November 23rd and 27th the
Patrol suspended administrative duties and had all troopers as well as
reservists and auxiliary troopers on the roadways.
The Florida Highway Patrol issued over 12,000
traffic citations and arrested 136 people for Driving under the Influence of
drugs or alcohol.
They wrote about 5000 speeding tickets and more
than 1,300 for failure to buckle up.
The highway patrol didn’t just write tickets,
troopers also helped nearly 3000 motorists who needed assistance while
traveling through the state.
