Franklin County removes local gun laws from the books

Franklin County commissioners voted this week to remove all local gun law from the books.

Counties around Florida are being forced to stop enforcing county gun laws by a new state law that limits gun regulation to the state government.

The law was passed to make it easier for gun owners to travel from one part of Florida to another without worrying that they might be breaking a local gun law.

County attorney Michael Shuler said the new law will have very little impact locally.

There were only two local gun laws on the books that he could find.

One dealt with concealed weapons, and the other banned people from shooting guns in county owned parks.

But to be safe the rule does say that any gun laws he might not have found are also null and void.

If the county had decided not to follow the state law, the repercussions would have been severe.

Punishments could include removal from office, a 5 million dollar fine for the county and a 5000 dollar fine for commissioners.
