Comedy Theatre and Classical Music Concert this weekend


Weekend Full of Theatre, Music and Pork BBQ! 
Culture takes center stage this weekend as the Dixie Theatre kicks off its 2012 Professional Season of music and theatre performances, the Ilse Newell Concert Series presents a classical guitar concert and the Weems Memorial Foundation hosts a New Years' Roast and Toast.

Ilse Newell Concert Series
The Ilse Newell Concert Series heats up in January with two of its early season performances.

Weems Benefit Roast

SGI Full Moon Climb Monday, Jan. 9
The January Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012.  The Sunset/Full Moon Climb will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will include light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the full moon.  Cost is $15.00 for the general public and $10.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. On Jan. 9 the sun will set at 5:57 p.m. and the moon will rise at 6:38 p.m.
 
After sunset, people are invited to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the full moon, as space and time permit.  Cost is $10.00 for the general public and $5.00 for SGLA members. 
 
The Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive.  Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

Apalachicola Hosts Annual Oyster Cook-off Jan. 13-14
Get out your recipes and join in as Apalachicola hosts its Second Annual Apalachicola Oyster Cookoff on Friday and Satuday, January 13-14. The Friday evening event will be a preview of the oyster-related silent auction items, along with a sampling of the Apalachicola Bay's tasty bivalves. The cook-off on Saturday will start at 10 a.m.; contestants are encouraged to enter with their favorite recipe. All forms of oysters will be available to taste: raw, steamed and fried.  The event will also include live music and dancing performances. Proceeds benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department.
