Franklin County workers
who have to travel on county business will now get more money so they can eat
while they are on the road.
The county commission on Wednesday approved an
increase in the amount they will repay county commissioners and other county representatives
for food.
The per diem was increased from 35 dollars to 75
dollars when county officials travel out of state and from 35 dollars to 55
dollars for in-state travel.
The issue was raised by Smokey Parrish who said 35
dollars won’t pay for three meals a day especially if you have to eat at your
hotel where the restaurants are generally more expensive.
Up until now anything over the 35 dollar limit had
to be paid out of pocket.
The board approved the increase in the per diem
effective immediately.
