Franklin County adopts E-verify system

Franklin County is now using the E-Verify system to make sure illegal immigrants aren’t working on federally funded projects.

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that allows employers to verify workers employment eligibility using data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration.

County attorney Michael Shuler said the county is required by law to use the system for any federally funded project to check the immigration status of workers and vendors.

The Clerk of the court’s office will set up and administer the program.
