County supports wildflowers on Highway 65

Highway 65 could be a little prettier to drive in the near future.

County commissioners last week approved a resolution supporting a wildflower management program on the state highway.

The resolution supports the county partnering with the state Department of Transportation and adjoining property owners to plant and implement roadside management practices that will increase visibility for Florida native wildflowers.

Every spring, wildflowers on the shoulders of roads across North Florida bloom making for beautiful trips, but in most cases the flowers are mowed down by state or county workers who need to keep the road shoulders clear.

The resolution approved last week is a step toward protecting the wildflowers along the highway.
