County
Commissioners on Tuesday threw their support behind a grant proposal to
continue Early childhood Services in Franklin county.
The group’s executive director, Dr. Pam
Fleege, asked for the counties support for the federally
funded program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant
women.
The group’s mission is to promote healthy
prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, and provide
educational services for very young children.
Early Headstart has been
working actively in the county since 1999.
It serves 40 children from
its two locations in Apalachicola and employs 14 local people.
Dr. Fleege said the group
has spent over 524 thousand dollars over the past year.
