Freshwater fishermen won't need a fishing license on Saturday

April 7th will be the first of four days this year where people can fish without first buying a license.

Florida provides license-free fishing days for people to have the opportunity to discover fishing and hopefully keep doing it over the long term.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spread out the opportunities this year so more people will be able to take advantage of the program.

Instead of providing one weekend for freshwater fishing and one weekend for saltwater fishing, the Commissioners decided at their meeting in February to break up the days.

So on Saturday, April 7th and June the 9th you won’t need a license for freshwater fishing and on June 2nd and September the 1st you won’t need a license to fish in saltwater.

All other bag limit, season and size restrictions will apply on the dates.

The license-free fishing designation applies only to recreational fishing, not commercial.
