Opening Day of Shorebird Nesting Season SGI State Park


Hi Folks,
It’s that time of year again when a young shorebird’s thoughts turn toward loveJ. The breeding season is upon us. Snowy plovers already have nests and soon will have their first chicks. Terns and skimmers will also be nesting very soon. These birds need your protection. Unknowing beachgoers can trample eggs and chicks, or they can flush parents from the nests leaving the eggs and chicks vulnerable to the hot sun and predators. The birds need your protection. You can become a beach steward. These stewards are stationed next to nesting sites where they educate the public about the nesting birds and steer beachgoers away from the nests.

An Opening Day training session at St. George Island State Park is quickly approaching. If you are interested in working in the state park this season, you should attend this training session below:
