Local oyster harvesters can now
get their new oyster harvesting licenses for the next year.
The Florida Department of Agriculture is
now accepting applications for oyster licenses, and the hope is that more
people will apply early this year so there’s not a big rush and the end of the
application period.
The price for an oyster license is still
100 dollar for residents and 500 dollars for non-residents but there is a 500
dollar late fee if you don’t apply for your license before Friday, June the 29th.
You can pay with a check or
money order made payable to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services
As always, the licenses are available at
the Shellfish Center at 260 260 Dr. Frederick S.
Humphries Street in Apalachicola – the office is open from 8 till 5 Monday
through Friday.
Its also time for oystermen to renew their
saltwater products licenses and applications for those should be sent to you in
the mail.
Remember to bring the saltwater products
license application when you apply for the oyster harvesting license so you can
get the 100 dollar discount on the saltwater license.
If you mail the application back you won’t
get the discount.
If you have any questions
regarding the purchase of your license you may call the Shellfish Center at 653-8317.
