Franklin County schools get an A grade from the ACLU

The American Civil Liberties Union has given the Franklin County School District an A grade for its enrolment process.
According to federal law, Social Security numbers are not required when enrolling a child in a public school.
If a district chooses to request Social Security numbers, they must state that the disclosure is voluntary.
It turns out only 34 of Florida’s 67 school district’s follow the law in full and Franklin county is one of them.
Wakulla County also follows federal law – Liberty County got an F in the study.
The ACLU says Gulf County needs work because the district doesn’t have standard forms so compliance varies between schools.
If you would like to view the ACLU report card and each district's rating, we’ve posted it on the news page at oysterradio.com.
