The Florida Department of Education
released 3rd grade FCAT results in math and reading on Thursday and
there was a big difference between the scores at Franklin
County ’s
two schools.
Overall
45 percent of local third graders scored at or above grade level in reading, that’s
a drop from 66 percent last year and below the statewide average of 56 percent.
Only
31 percent of local 3rd graders scored high enough in math – down
from 72 percent last year.
The
statewide average was 58 percent.
But
third graders at the Apalachicola
Bay
Charter
School
actually beat the state average this year with 61 percent passing the math
portion of the FCAT and 72 percent scoring a 3 or higher in reading.
At
the Franklin
County
School
30 percent of 3rd graders passed the reading section and 15 percent
passed in math.
The FCAT reading
scores are especially important in 3rd grade because students who
don’t score at least a 2 can be held back – though there are other options that
the school can consider that allow students to move on to the 4th
grade.
You

FCAT results on the news page at oysterradio.com.
