Bay scallop
season is open for recreational harvesters through mid-September and if you
decide to take part remember there is a daily bag limit.
Recreational harvesters are
limited to 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of bay
scallop meat per person.
There is also a daily vessel
limit of one half gallon of bay scallop meat.
And if you try get away with
more than that you might have to deal with the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as four harvesters discovered last week.
Officer Hal
Webb stopped a vessel in St. Joe Bay to conduct an inspection and discovered that the
four people on board had gone over their limit.
They tried to
claim that they had actually harvested some of the scallops the day before, but
even so they still had a pint more than the daily vessel limit allows.
The captain of
the boat was issued a citation.
