The fishing pier on St. George
Island
A section of the pier was destroyed after it was hit by a
barge belonging to a Progress Energy subcontractor.
The barge slammed in to the side of the pier, knocking a
piece of the roadway off the fishing pier about 100 yards from the entrance to
the pier.
The barge then continued through the hole in the pier before
hitting the St. George
Island
County commissioners have asked that their attorney talk to
progress Energy and its subcontractor on getting the damage fixed as soon as
possible.
They also want the fallen piece of roadway removed from the
water.
Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she wants to see the repairs
done as quickly as possible.
The pier is a huge attraction for tourists, dozens of whom
can be seen fishing from the pier on most days.

Please get it repaired ASAP. I always get there for fishing every with nearly over a grand bucks spent locally. It will affect the local economy significantly.
Yes, we are regular visitors for St. George Island as well as the fishing pier. After spending half day in the beach I like to take kids to the fishing pier for fishing. The fishing pier is wonderful place to enjoy and teaching kids to love this activity. We will then dive in one of restaurants in the Eastpoint, enjoying the fresh fish food there. I strongly urgent Commissioner Pinki Jackel to fix the pier as soon as possible.
