Local unemployment ticks up in June


Franklin County unemployment ticked up slightly in June.

Local unemployment rose from 6 percent to 6.2 percent between May and June – even with the increase, Franklin county still had the 4th lowest unemployment rate in the state.

359 people were looking for work in Franklin County last month, up slightly from 343 people in May.

June’s unemployment was also much better than a year earlier when it was listed at 7.8 percent.

Gulf County also saw its unemployment increase last month from 8 percent to 8.4 percent.

525 people were looking for work in Gulf County in June, up from 491 in May.

In Wakulla County the unemployment rate remained rose to 7.4 percent, in Liberty County unemployment rose from 6.7 percent to 7.4 percent.

The Statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.6 percent – the same as in may.
