Carrabelle to discuss purchase of SGI and St. James water systems next week

The Carrabelle City Commission will hold a public hearing next Thursday to discuss the potential purchase of Water Management Services which provides water to St. George Island and to look at the issues surrounding the possibility of purchasing the St. James Island utility Company.

The potential sale of the St. George Island water company has raised a lot of concern with island residents who are asking that the sale be delayed while they consider other option for the future of the water company.

Residents have formed a committee to evaluate the sale as well as other options the island might be able to take.

Water Management Services is privately owned and is the only source for potable water on the island.

The potential sale only became public knowledge a few months ago.

If the process continues unhindered – the sale could be complete by September.

The hearing is open to the public – and will likely draw a large crowd.

It will be held at 5 PM at the Carrabelle Municipal complex on Gray Avenue.
