County commissioners have agreed to rebid
for a fixed base operator at the Apalachicola
airport.
The FBO provides services at the airport
like fueling, hangar rental, tie-down
and parking, aircraft rental, aircraft maintenance, and flight instruction.
The board has had a hard time finding a
company to provide the services, they have negotiated with a few companies but
all of the negotiations have fallen through.
Currently the county itself is providing
services at the airport, but are concerned that if they don’t find a
professional FBO that the airport will begin to become a financial drain on the county instead of the money
maker that the county wants.
County planner Alan Pierce said he is
already aware of some companies that are interested in the work and he will
begin discussions with them immediately while advertising the position locally
for two weeks.
