A health department sponsored dental clinic should be up and running in Franklin County by early October.

The Health department plans to provide 5 day a week dental services from the Carrabelle health department building for uninsured and Medicare eligible residents of the county.

The local dental services will focus on preventative care and employ a full time dental hygienist and also pay to have a dentist scheduled for restorative care like pulling teeth or filling cavities.

Besides the clinic in Carrabelle, The health Department will provide dental sealant for local school children in the 2nd and 7th grades from a, office at the Franklin County school.

Health Department officials say the offices in Carrabelle and at the Franklin county school are finished, and the x-ray machines have been purchased and installed.

The health department has also hired a dentist, though it will be 60 days before she can leave her current job.

Over that time she will hire her office staff so the clinic can be ready to go as soon as possible.
