County commission approves Health Department fees

County commissioners last week adopted the fees that health department will charge for its various services beginning in October.

The local health department provides a variety of medical and public heath services ranging from vaccinations, diagnostic services and gynecological services to testing drinking water wells and permitting septic systems.

They also provide some free services like childrens’ vaccinations and HIV screenings.

And beginning this year the health department will also provide a variety of dental services at their office in Carrabelle.

The amount the health department charges depends on the service and the income of the person or family using the services.

According to the health department, the standard prices for all of the services will remain the same as last year for people paying the set fee.

Those who qualify for the sliding fee will actually see a drop in the cost of most medical services at the health department because of a reduction in Medicaid cost based reimbursements.

Since this will be the first year for dental services, those fees are all new.

The local dental fees will be the same as those charged at the health department dental clinic in Gulf County.
