St. George Island Featured In Apple IPhone Siri Ad, National Satellite Media Tour
World leaders and famous celebrities may be on the cover of national publications like People, National Geographic and the New Yorker right now but St. George Island made the the back cover!
A full page print ad featuring Apple’s IPhone assistant application Siri, shows Siri locating a fictional ice cream store located at 139 West Gorrie Drive with the line, “This ice cream shop looks pretty close to you.” Though the map is not named in the ad, it is a map of St. George Island, showing several island streets, such as West Gorrie Drive, E. Pine Avenue, E. Bayshore Drive and Franklin Boulevard. The ad has reportedly appeared in several national magazines, including The New Yorker, National Geographic, Money, Food & Wine and Martha Stewart Living.
Despite the map’s authenticity, Cindi’s Ice Cream shop is fictional. St. George Island has two ice cream shops, but neither is named Cindi’s. The address listed for Cindi’s Ice Cream shop is 139 West Gorrie Drive - the site of a local beach supply business. The national ad publicity comes on the heels of another St. George Island media event. The Franklin County Tourist Development Council (FCTDC) recently partnered with Visit Florida to host a Satellite Media Tour (SMT) from the St. George Island Lighthouse Park. The four-hour event on July 16, along with a separate Radio Media Tour event on July 18, involved tightly choreographed satellite hookups with major market TV and radio stations across the US. The events were moderated by Visit Florida’s Family Travel Writer and Insider Jill Martin. Martin was interviewed by more than 100 TV and radio stations from across the country, including two nationally syndicated daytime shows. Martin promoted late summer getaways statewide and focused particularly on St. George Island’s ranking as one of America’s Top 10 Beaches. TDC officials say preliminary results from the Satellite and Radio Media Tours netted the area nearly five million exposures to viewers and listeners across the country and more than 100 television airings of the segments nationwide.
