Local unemployment fell slightly in August


Franklin County unemployment dropped slightly in August after two months of increasing  jobless numbers.

Local unemployment fell from 6.6 percent to 6.4 percent between July and August; Franklin County has the 4th lowest unemployment rate in the state.

366 people were looking for work in Franklin County last month, down from 381 people in July.

Gulf County also saw a small drop in unemployment from 8.7 to 8.5 percent.

526 people were looking for work in Gulf County in August, down from 542 a month earlier.

In Wakulla County the unemployment rate fell from 7.4 to 6.8 percent, in Liberty County unemployment fell from 7.7 percent to 7.4 percent.

The Statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.8 percent – the same as a month earlier.
