Maritime Museum to manage St. George Island Visitor's Center

Management of the visitors’ center on St. George Island will change hands next month.

The visitor’s center at Lighthouse Park has been managed by the St. George lighthouse Association for the past few years, but the group said that now that is the lighthouse keepers museum in place, its volunteers have plenty of work to do.

So beginning October the 1^st, the Maritime Museum in Apalachicola will provide the staffing and management of the center.

The local Tourist development Council said this should be a good change as the Maritime Museum will keep a nice selection of maritime exhibits at the center.

That, they feel, should be a nice addition to the lighthouse exhibits already at the park.

Beginning October the 1^st, the center will also be open 7 days a week to provide information to local visitors.
