BBB® Serving Northwest Florida recognized at BBB International Assembly

Pensacola, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2012) – Your BBB Serving Northwest Florida was recognized at the 42ndInternational Assembly of Better Business Bureaus held Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 in Washington, D.C. The Outstanding BBB Awards were part of the International Assembly and centennial celebration marking Better Business Bureau’s 100th anniversary of advancing marketplace trust.
Your BBB|Northwest Florida received an Outstanding BBB Award for Outstanding Outreach (Consumers or Businesses) for its participation in a pilot program with a number of partners including the First Judicial Circuit of Florida, Baptist Health Care, Department of Children & Families, Escambia County Clerk and Comptroller’s Office, Families First Network, Legal Services of North Florida, Pensacola State College, Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund, Unite Escambia - Bridges to Circles and the University of West Florida. Together, they created a financial literacy workshop using curriculum from BBB and from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Money Smart materials. The workshop was created with the goal that it could be included as part of a comprehensive case plan for families in dependency court at risk of losing their children.
After the initial pilot, AmeriCorps VISTAs joined the project to increase the number of participating agencies and assist with assessing longer-term impact on workshop attendees.
The purpose of the Outstanding BBB Awards program is to recognize innovation, celebrate and share great ideas, encourage improvement, help address challenges and continuously improve the BBB system.
"It’s an honor to be recognized internationally for our efforts locally,” said Norman Wright, president and CEO of your BBB|Northwest Florida. “Thanks to the support of our BBB Accredited Businesses, BBB Foundation sponsors, and of course, the partners in this program, BBB’s educational information has been able to reach a population that has historically been vulnerable in the marketplace."
