County seeking bids for transfer station operator

County Commissioners have decided to seek bids from garbage companies interested in operating the transfer station at the county landfill.

For the past fifteen years Waste management has held the contract to operate the transfer station which allows them to transport municipal solid waste out of the county for disposal.

The county had the option of extending the contract for another five years, but decided to seek bids after learning the contract would actually cost the county money.

The contract with Waste Management ends on March 25th, so the county has until then to find other qualified companies.

The last time the county sought bids, Waste Management was the only company to apply.

This time commissioners say they may have to look further for companies that might be interested in providing the service.
